WHAT WAS THE PROJECT?

The project was to teach the young group from Fairbridge. We introduced them to stop frame animation film and to get them involved and teach them some new skills that they can use in the future. We aimed to help this group of people since we had the understanding that they don’t usually get a chance to do creative projects like this.

Also, it fits the type of work most of the young people are looking to get into (arts, photography etc)

WHO WAS INVOLVED?

The project was aimed at a small group of young people aged 16 and over at Fairbridge the people who was involved were apprentices. The apprentices would take on different roles and responsibilities to ensure everyone had a part on helping. These were things such as looking after the cameras, organising what was going to happen in the animation etc.

HOW DID IT GO?

It went really well due to them being introduced to new skills. They all got involved and showed enthusiasm to take part. We did three short animations which all had the outcome we were expecting. Each one took about 10 – 15 minutes to shoot and then another 5 minutes to compile together on the computer.

DID THE PARTICIPANTS ENJOY THE EXPERIENCE?

They got involved but they were unsure due to the new skills that were being introduced. After explaining how the process of making a stop frame animation, and showing how easy it can be to create one using the finished animation they helped make, they understood more on what needed to be done to achieve the outcome we had.

A lot of the young people said that they would be able to use this experience in the future and would find it just as easy to achieve.

WHAT DID YOU LEARN FROM THE EXPERIENCE AN WHAT MIGHT YOU DO DIFFERENTLY IN THE FUTURE?

What we learned was that we should of went in with a basic idea of what the script would have been about then input the ideas of the young people. There could have been less of us to ensure the ratio of apprentices to the people we were helping made it more comfortable for them to talk to us..
