Creative Journeys was a free day long event held on 28th September 2011 at The Public, West Bromwich for young people, teachers and parents featuring workshops, markets and creative challenges giving young people a chance to explore and unravel information about careers in the creative and cultural sector.
With over ten main workshops to choose from they got the lowdown about the sector from people who are currently running their own businesses and freelance careers in the sector. On offer was:
Architecture by MADE
Art by New Art Gallery Walsall
Design by Made Media
Fashion by Jacob Kimmie Limited
Film by The Electric Cinema
Games by Playgen
Dance by Punch
Radio by Get on the Radio
Television by Ember TV
Music by Access to Music
Theatre by The Birmingham REP
Publishing by Writing West Midlands
“Both workshops I delivered were highly successful, busy and informative, young people seemed to enjoy them. They are hopefully inspired to pursue a career in the visual arts.”
“Some very interesting people.”
“Well organised and attended….Schools should further embrace such initiatives.”
“Really good idea!”
With the aid of students The Rep were able to create an original piece of drama that highlighted some of the stigmas of working in the creative industry and what students would like to tell their parents.

Top Tips
All of our workshop leaders contributed their three most valuable tips for getting in to and working in the creative and cultural industry. These 32 tips were distributed through The Public for the students to find and read as part of a hunt. Those who found the most were in with a chance of winning the top prizes. We’d like to congratulate 1st and 2nd place winners, David O’Neil and Nathan Aston.
