Apprentice Social Media Assistant

Salary: £ 300 per week
Working week: Monday - Friday

The Smartbox Head Office is in Malvern, Worcestershire. There is a second major office in Bristol and a smaller one in Pennsylvania, US.

This role will be based in Bristol, assisting with the digital marketing and promotion of Smartbox products and services. It involves supporting the Communications Lead to build campaigns across a range of channels, raising the profile of Smartbox and awareness of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC).

The role

  • Marketing our products and services using social media, email marketing
  • Generating digital content: copy, graphics & video
  • Carrying out SEO and reporting on data & trends
  • This includes creating and editing content for social media and the website; assisting in social media planning and scheduling; reporting on SEO and other analytics. It offers an excellent way to build skills and experience that will start your career in digital marketing, social media and communications with an industry-leading assistive technology company.
  • Above all we are looking for someone who can use their own initiative and can bring ideas to the table. You’ll thrive from delivering quality results from your work. Any experience with digital marketing will be advantageous. A willingness to learn and get stuck in will be key to growing in this role and being a successful member of the team.

Core Duties:

  • Drafting and scheduling content for Smartbox’s social channels
  • Writing engaging captions for social media
  • Developing photo, video and graphic design skills to create eye catching content
  • Generating reports using social media analytics
  • Researching topics for blogs, social media content and video
  • Supporting email campaigns
  • Creating blogs and longer form articles for the Smartbox website (including news stories and interviews)
  • Engaging with audiences and responding to customers across social channels
  • Monitoring social trends, competitor activity, key influencers and Facebook groups


  • Adhering to company processes, policies and procedures, particularly GDPR data protection legislation and health and safety best practices around social distancing
  • Working in a way which celebrates diversity in practice, programmes and projects and encourages best practice
  • Acting as a positive advocate for the company at all times
  • Carrying out any other reasonable duties as required and agreed with your line manager
  • Supporting the wider Marketing Team

Applicants should be literate and numerate. Grade C/4 and above in English Maths and IT are preferable

Skills required:


  • Excellent literacy, written and spoken communication skills
  • Good administrative and organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines
  • An understanding of social media platforms and how businesses use Facebook, Instagram, Linkedin and Twitter
  • Understanding of social media analytics
  • Ability to produce clear information and edit simple copy
  • Basic image and video creation/editing skills
  • Good IT skills, MS office (Word, PowerPoint and Excel)
  • Passion for digital design and presentation
  • Able to work to a brief, independently and as part of a team


  • Graphic design skills
  • Photography skills
  • Adobe Creative Cloud (including Photoshop and Premiere Pro)
  • Experience using Canva
  • SEO knowledge
Training to be provided:

Digital Marketer:

Apprentices learn the skills they need on the job with the guidance of a development coach who is an expert from industry. You will finish your apprenticeship with a recognised qualification, valuable industry experience, money, and substantial opportunities for promotion.

Training is a blended learning delivery model: online learning, classroom sessions, work-based training, independent research, workplace projects, one-to-one support and training. Your training will include:

This is an apprenticeship position - all training will be provided.
Future prospects:
This opportunity will allow the successful candidate to achieve a Level 3 Digital Marketer Apprenticeship with the potential to progress to a level 4 Marketing Executive apprenticeship. Thereafter, there is scope for further training and full-time employment.
