Purpose of the role: As PR & Comms Trainee you will help promote businesses and brands to their target audiences through press coverage in magazines, newspapers, websites, TV and radio. You’ll also support with ideas for social media campaigns and events.


Main Responsibilities: Working within an Account Team, you’ll get to learn about a whole host of clients; identifying the right media channels to promote their products and services. You’ll support with research and content creation and showcase brilliant ideas that help them grow.


Core Duties: You’ll become part of the EAST VILLAGE. team, attending our (currently virtual) weekly team meetings where we share ideas and help create brilliant PR campaigns for clients. You’ll work within an account team to deliver the activity set out in PR plans, including press stories and social media, as well as helping to create documents such as press packs, press releases and features to pitch to media. Using our media database, as well as internet research, you’ll create and build brilliant press lists and research similar brands to look at the stories and campaigns that help them hit the headlines.

Monitoring the media will be a big part of your role, identifying opportunities for client coverage, as well as being supported to write and send press releases… and land that exciting coverage! In this role, you’ll keep on top of trends across social media, to aid client social media strategies, as well as researching and contacting bloggers and influencers. When restrictions lift you will also help to organise events and attend them alongside your team mates.


General Duties: You will be confident in communication, both verbal and written, and build presentation skills whilst with us. Becoming part of the EAST VILLAGE. team, you’ll work hard to deliver for clients, but have fun whilst doing it; acting as a positive advocate of the company at all times, including social media, emails and calls. As you build your confidence, you’ll also become a point of contact for clients and suppliers. It goes without saying that you’ll be expected to adhere to our company process, policies and procedures; including GDPR and health and safety. You’ll also need to be compliant with all relevant funding conditions and reporting requirements and carry out any additional reasonable duties as required and agreed with your line manager.


This opportunity is funded through DWP so applicants, therefore, must be in receipt of Universal Credit.

Skills required:

Employability: Strong communication skills, approachable and enthusiastic. Good presentation skills: happy to present to the team remotely & in person. Keen to learn from others & get stuck in. Great timekeeping is essential for your working day, sticking to deadlines and multi-tasking.

Technical skills: Computer literacy, using Word, Excel and Powerpoint, and ideally able to use InDesign/Canva. You will have a love of social media, always looking at the latest trends and following great influencers. You need to be confident and professional when communicating by email (Microsoft Outlook) and happy to use computer programmes and software including, Slack and Zoom.

EAST VILLAGE will provide the Kickstart Placement with a mentor to provide ongoing support to effectively integrate them into the culture of the company and help them understand the professional standards we work to. They will receive external employability support from Creative Alliance who will help them produce a new CV and portfolio so they can compete for positions after their six months on the Kickstart scheme. Once we have appointed our Placement, we will look at which of the Digital Skills for Business courses (coding & web design; digital content production; design; digital marketing) best meets their development needs and they will attend that level 3 certified 60-hour tutor led course provided by Creative Alliance.
