Get your creative career started with our intensive and immersive Live Events Skills Bootcamp.

Skills Bootcamps are free, flexible courses of up to 8 weeks, giving you the opportunity to build up sector-specific skills and fast-track to an interview with an employer.

What is it?

This 5-week intensive course is for people looking to get a career in the technical side of the theatre or live events industry. In the course, you will get hands-on experience in all the technical elements of putting on a live show, focusing on Light, Sound and Stage. The course is focussed on building up your essential skills, and professional profile and applying for jobs. This will be delivered in partnership with the MAC (Midlands Art Centre), a leading events organisation. Learn on a real stage, and get experience on:   

  • Flying Systems, knots and termination. 
  • Using Industry standard show control software.
  • Rigging and focusing.
  • Safely working at height and using access equipment. 

You will not only learn the essential skills to work in Theatre and the technical elements of Light, Sound and Stage. You will also learn how to operate in the industry, what roles there are in the sector and how it functions. As well, learn how to build up your skills with professional training and present yourself to the industry in a professional manner to give you the best chance to get a job. 

You will learn

  • Technical elements of Light, Sound and Stage work.
  • How to use stage systems and the regulations required to use them.
  • Learn to use professional software to run live events.

  • You need to be 19 or over and NOT in full time education.
  • You are based within the West Midlands.
  • You have a right to work in the UK.
  • You are looking to start or change your career and looking for employment, or new clients if you are a freelancer.
  • You have the time availability to commit to the course schedule.
  • Open to learning how to work at heights and enjoy hands-on work.
  • Wear appropriate work gear (contact us for more info)
  • Able to commute to the theatre (Edgbaston) and our centre (Digbeth)

Application Form

On the completion of the application form you will receive an Email from us to confirm application submission. We will then process your application and contact you.

Screening Call

A member of our team will contact you to review eligibility criteria. Once all applications have been reviewed you will be informed if you application was successful around one week before the start of the course.

  • 100 hours + worth of sessions delivered in a professional theatre.
  • 5-week course + Employability Aftercare sessions (More details soon).
  • Sessions delivered by industry professionals.
  • Special sessions delivered by employers, recruitment experts and Business Owners.
