Apprenticeships can help grow business, and I have seen it over the last 10 years

I have worked for Creative Alliance for almost 10 years; at first as a development coach and then as business development manager. Over these years I have seen the true impact that apprentices have on an organisation. Mostly it is positive but the ones that do it right have seen real significant growth and development. And its not just small companies that are doing this, most levy payers we work with are heavily recruiting with apprenticeships as they also recognise the impact that I have seen.

The inspiration for this blog was a video released by one of our long standing clients, Ark Media Group, who we have been working with for nearly 10 years. The video was a  celebration because Ark Group had been accredited with an Investors in People certificate. While I watched the video on LinkedIn I started to realise how many apprentices they had hired and promoted and developed in their organisation.

Ark Media Group have had 11 apprentices with Creative Alliance over the years, this raft of young talent have been employed in various roles, from video production, editing to marketing. And many of those are now in senior positions in the company.

Ark Media over this time have more than doubled in size and extended their products from filmmaking to marketing and much more. Of course, they have hired other staff, its not just built off the back of apprenticeships. But they have a dedicated attitude towards talent development and run a culture that means people stay with the business.

We spoke with Phil Arkinstall the CEO of Ark Media who had this to say:

We are big advocates of doing it the ‘Ark way’ which has allowed us to keep the quality and values that we set out when the company was formed and of course have applied that to the apprentices.”

“Ark Media Group has worked with Creative Alliance over a number of years and have engaged with a number of apprentices. Some of the early apprentices have worked their way up are now key members of the Ark Media team. Apprenticeships benefit both the employer and the apprentice and I would highly recommend apprenticeships as a great way of getting into the creative industries. “

I personally have worked with Ark’s apprentices, as a development coach for a few years and watching the video was a real blast from the past to see how far they had gone in the company. It was a real tribute to not only Phil’s vision within talent development in the company but also the work done by Creative Alliance over the last decade.

So thanks Ark for the video, it definitely had an impact on us at Creative Alliance and there is no finer organisation that deserves an investor in people accreditation.
