King's Lynn Corn Exchange theatre and cinema is a popular entertainment venue featuring everything from opera to pantomime.
Located on the historic Tuesday Market Place in the heart of King's Lynn, the Corn Exchange hosts a wide variety of entertainment for everyone to enjoy including top comedians, live music concerts, dance, opera, children's shows, musicals, theatre, talks and a magical pantomime every Christmas.

MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB

Assist in the technical operation of the King's Lynn Corn Exchange Theatre & Cinema and The King’s Lynn Arts Centre ensuring that operational, maintenance and health and safety requirements are complied with.

KEY AREAS

Based at the King’s Lynn Corn Exchange, assist in the operation and maintenance of all technical activities and equipment within the Arts & Entertainment venues.
Under guidance of the Technical Manager ensure that all operations comply with relevant Health and Safety legislation.
Liaise with staff and incoming productions/events to ensure that the events take place smoothly and effectively.

MAIN DUTIES

Set-up & operate technical stage equipment (inc. lighting, sound, video & staging).
Prepare and show cinema films as required.
Under guidance of the Technical Manager, ensure all events/productions operate within licensing and health and safety legislation.
Responsible for general housekeeping associated with the technical operation of the venues.
Carry out Building/ Plant maintenance as required.
Undertake duties associated with the technical operation and maintenance of the venues as directed by the Technical Manager.
Carry out all building & fire alarm checks as specified by the Technical Manager.
Undertake duties associated with the technical operation and maintenance of the venues as directed by the Technical Manager

Requirements:

Essential Knowledge

Experience of a concert hall / theatre type environment.
Experience of operating stage / technical equipment.
Experience of Sound operation
An awareness of relevant Health and Safety law and the implications for a live entertainment venue.

Desirable Knowledge

Some electrical knowledge. i.e. PAT Testing
Some experience of using ETC, Avolite lighting desks and Yamaha CL5 digital sound desk or similar.
Knowledge of Cinema

Training to be provided:

Creative Industries Production Technician – Creative Venue Technician Pathway Level 3 Standard.

A CVT provides technical support for the construction, rehearsal, presentation and removal of a live performance. They are multi-skilled across a wide range of technical disciplines. They possess a broad level of knowledge relevant to the venue in which they operate. CVTs will be competent in lighting, audio, video and stage systems related to live performance. They apply these competencies to their resident premises and production. They are skilled in stagecraft techniques such as operating stage machinery and performing scene changes. This allows them to set up, rig, operate, maintain and carry out basic repairs of technical equipment used in creative venues.

Duty 1 Interpret system specifications for productions, live performance and events. These systems can include sound or lighting or video.

Duty 2 Assemble and configure systems to meet the specification requirements for sound, lighting, power or video.

Duty 3 Test, troubleshoot and maintain equipment and systems.

Duty 4 Collaborate with stakeholders and work with team members.

Duty 5 Operate and maintain technical equipment.

Duty 6 Dynamically risk assess the work environment and situation. Adapt working practices to ensure the safety of self and others.

Duty 7 Disassemble and store technical equipment safely and efficiently at the end of the event, ensuring that the integrity of the components is maintained.

Duty 12 (Creative Venue Technician (CVT)) Monitor and operate systems or services relevant to own workplace.

Duty 13 (Creative Venue Technician (CVT)) Assemble scenery and staging systems to meet performance requirements.

Duty 14 (Creative Venue Technician (CVT)) Carry out live scene changes and operate stage and suspension systems.

Duty 15 (Creative Venue Technician (CVT)) Inspect systems or services relevant to own workplace and carry out maintenance, basic repairs, and upkeep.

Things to consider:

Appointments will be made subject to a satisfactory criminal record check through the Disclosure and Barring Service.
Due to the nature of the live events industry, this will not be a 9-5 role. The successful apprentice will be expected to work late nights, weekends and bank holidays.

Future prospects:

Potential for full-time employment upon successful completion of the apprenticeship.
