Young people want to work, that is a fact. They want to be a part of Britains future, but they need hope and there has to be a change. At the moment there is nearly 1 million young people unemployed and according to the Guardian this could continue to rise.

We are at danger of a lost generation if something isn’t done.

But I want to add some hope, in my role as head of the recruitment we talk to young people looking for apprenticeships every single day. There are some hugely talented and ambitious young people who are looking find work. The worrying thing is that all of our apprenticeship vacancies have hundreds of applicants, and often just one or two positions. For employers it can be a real feast to get talent at the moment.

Not only is there huge numbers, but with technology advancing so much now and the internet being, well the internet, there is huge options for applicants to teach themselves a lot of foundational skills. We have young people teaching themselves graphic design, 3D modelling, content creation and much more. They have side hustles and have built brands to sell. Companies should be taking advantage of this.

With employers, I see large business, extending their talent intake with apprenticeships. They understand the bottom-line. Income to utilising the scheme. Innovation is what is going to make sure organisations survive in the next decade and the people that develop and embrace it, the next generation.

To summarise, we have a lot of talented people ready to work, government incentives to hire young people, and employers with a need to cut costs and still show growth.

Apprenticeships can achieve all of this, and it’s helping the future of Britain.
