What is Blended Learning?

Blended learning in apprenticeships combines structured training, expert support, and real workplace experience. It is designed to help apprentices develop the skills, knowledge, and behaviours needed for their role, ensuring training is practical, relevant, and valuable to their organisation.

Instead of relying on a single method of learning, blended learning brings together one-to-one coaching, live training seminars, and on-the-job application. This approach supports different learning styles, keeps learning relevant to the workplace, and provides consistent pastoral support throughout the apprenticeship.

Our Blended Learning approach consists of two key learning methods:

Seminars

  • Develop key knowledge and skills linked to the apprenticeship standard
  • Provide wider insight into the industry and sector
  • Allow apprentices to learn alongside a cohort of peers and share ideas

Seminars are live interactive training sessions delivered by experts – designed to encourage discussion, collaboration, and practical application. Content is reviewed regularly to ensure it reflects current industry trends, tools, and best practice.

Learning as part of a cohort helps apprentices broaden their understanding, build confidence, and see how their role fits within the wider industry.

Development Coaches

  • Works closely with the apprentice to understand their role and responsibilities
  • Sets tailored assignments and projects that build a strong portfolio of evidence
  • Ensures assessments align with the learner, their job role, and the apprenticeship standard

Every apprentice is supported by a dedicated development coach throughout their apprenticeship. This ensures that off-the-job training directly adds value to the employer’s organisation, rather than feeling separate from the workplace.

Our development coaches provide regular one-to-one support and guidance, helping apprentices reflect on their learning and apply it effectively at work. Formal progress review meetings take place every 6-8 weeks ensuring clear communication, shared expectations, and ongoing support.

Our Tailored Approach to Work-Based Learning

Blended learning is particularly effective for apprenticeships because it connects learning directly to the workplace.

Training is tailored to:

  • The individual learner
  • Their specific job role
  • The apprenticeship standard they are working towards
  • The organisations goals

This ensures that off-the-job training time is meaningful and directly supports the apprentice’s day-to-day responsibilities. For employers, this means the apprenticeship goes beyond a qualification and becomes a structured development programme that builds capability, confidence, and long-term value within the workforce.

Blended learning also provides the support apprentices need to stay engaged, overcome challenges, and successfully complete their programme.
