CA Spotlight: Building Relationships & Futures

The CA Spotlight is our way of recognising and celebrating individuals’ achievements within the company. We take feedback from learners, employers, colleagues, the senior management team, and the board to decide on who we will spotlight.

This was due for our second quarter of the year! Our spotlight is on: Tom Croft, Business Development & Recruitment Coordinator.

Tom’s story

Tom’s story with Creative Alliance started as a Digital Marketing apprentice, learning the ropes of the creative industry while working towards his qualification.

More than five years later, he is one of the most experienced and dependable members of our business development team, helping employers across the sector find the talent they need and opening doors for the next generation of apprentices.

What Tom does and the impact

Business development and recruitment can be one of the most demanding roles at Creative Alliance. It requires Tom to be the bridge between two very different audiences simultaneously: employers who want to understand how an apprentice can genuinely add value to their business, and people navigating the early stages of their creative careers who need to feel that someone is in their corner. Getting that balance right, consistently, is no small thing.

Tom focuses on building the quality of the relationships with the employers he works with. From being straightforward, and having a genuine interest in finding the right talent rather than just filling a placement. The results speak for themselves. His clients don’t just work with Creative Alliance once and move on, they come back, because they trust Tom.

“Tom has brought a maturity and determination to one of the toughest roles in Creative Alliance. He is able to build strong and collaborative relationships with his clients and they respect the work he does for them, which means they keep coming back for more. He is a key member of the business development team, offering help and doing additional tasks when asked. He is there for the team rather than himself, offering guidance to others and meaning they can be successful. This year he is going to smash his own personal record for apprenticeship enrolments and I imagine that will keep growing.”

– James (Business Development Manager, Creative Alliance)

From apprentice to coordinator

Perhaps what makes Tom’s relationship building resonate most is where it started. He experienced the Creative Alliance apprenticeship programme as a learner, which means he understands the journey from the inside.

He knows what it feels like to be at the beginning of a career in the creative industries, to be finding your feet and figuring out where you fit.

Congratulations, Tom!

We are incredibly proud of everything Tom has built here. The relationships, the results, and the culture of support he contributes to every day. He is exactly the kind of person that makes Creative Alliance what it is.
