Meet Archie – Production Assistant Apprentice

Author

At just 16, Archie took a leap into the television industry through an apprenticeship with TBN UK. Now, at 18, he’s already directed 30 episodes—an experience that usually takes professionals decades to achieve.

“Being able to effectively have a job role in a TV company at 16 years old under an apprenticeship has been amazing,”

His role has exposed him to a wide range of skills, from directing and camera operation to graphics and social media.

Archie found the apprenticeship provided a structured yet flexible way to learn, combining hands-on experience with a recognised qualification. “The creative industry values experience as much as qualifications. This apprenticeship has given me both.”

For anyone considering a career in TV, film, or the creative industries, Archie has one piece of advice: “Start early, gain experience, and consider an apprenticeship—it’s a game-changer!”

Archie, also shared his journey of balancing work and study while navigating challenges with ADHD and dyslexia. Fresh out of school, he initially struggled to adjust but, while waiting for a formal ADHD diagnosis, we used the Do-it-profiler to identify key areas of support we could provide. This tailored support helped Archie regain focus and get back on track three months before his end-point assessment. With guidance from his development coach, Andy, Archie not only overcame his difficulties but excelled, achieving a distinction. Now in a new apprenticeship, he is ahead of targets and thriving, crediting part of their success to gaining the right support.
