Boosting your teams’ abilities with apprenticeships

Did you know that apprenticeships go all the way up to Level 7? Which is equivalent to a master’s level. Did you know they are 95% government funded? Did you know that anyone, literally anyone in your company can be put on an apprenticeship? I will probably guess not because still a lot of businesses do not know about this. The ones that do know about this (our clients) are growing and building for the future.

Are you looking to develop your staff? Genuinely ask yourself how you could take advantage of apprenticeships. They are designed to teach new skills, increase and stretch learner’s abilities to take on new responsibilities. It’s a win-win. Then the final cherry is there is no monetary cost. The only cost is time.

As an example, let me tell you how I have used apprenticeships in my department. I am a senior manager at a training company, so of course we have to train our staff. In my team of seven, five of them have done apprenticeships and two of them have done two. This has ranged from entry level apprenticeships to degree level apprenticeships. And they have come on leaps and bounds and really bonded as a team. I don’t need to micro-manage, they make good decisions and have basically made the company a lot of money and built growth.

So how does it work?

Well with us we have three, what we call, progression apprenticeships.

Level 4 (Co-Ordinator Role) Marketing Executive

This is for a junior member of staff in a marketing team or agency who wants to take the next step in their understanding and application of marketing theory. This is definitely the “why” you do something rather than the “how” to do something. Strategy, long term planning and high impact. So, if you have a junior member of staff who is super keen – put that enthusiasm to some use and put them on this.

Level 6 (Manager Role) Marketing Manager

Next step up from Level 4 – This is great for either a new manager or accidental manager (someone who is basically manager because they have been there the longest), or someone looking to become manager. Learn in depth marketing strategy theories and apply them, learn about budgets and how to manage teams. The last part of that list definitely adds huge value. Gaining understanding and theories to apply around managing people can be an absolute game changer. It was for me and my career.

Level 7 (Leadership Role) Creative Industries Production Manager

This is specifically for TV, Film, Theatre and Live Events managers. If you are an employee who has a few years’ experience working in the production part of your creative projects. This course will give them real and applicable knowledge that they can apply to managing creative projects. It can gain skills from applying for funding, making sure productions are environmentally sustainable, exploiting and understanding legal and tax regulations in the industry, managing crew and full-time staff effectively to budgeting.

These courses help build loyalty to your organisation, add value to your current staff and give them a sense of achievement and progression. Plus, it’s free. Why not utilise this service?

With all of these apprenticeships, learners need to have a role in a job and usually need experience already as the course has the assumption that they understand how to do the basic relevant role.
