Company:
Technical Theatre & Live Events Development Coach
Address:
Description:
Use your technical theatre or live-events experience to develop the next generation of production talent.
Creative Alliance is looking for a Development Coach to work with apprentices undertaking the Creative Industries Production Technician apprenticeship. This could suit an experienced apprenticeship coach, trainer or assessor, but we are equally interested in hearing from experienced industry professionals who want to use their knowledge to develop other people.
About us
Creative Alliance is an independent, not-for-profit social enterprise specialising in apprenticeships across the creative, digital and marketing industries. We work with apprentices and employers across England, including Ambassadors Theatre Group, Sony, Global Media Group and the Royal Ballet & Opera.
We are an independent organisation, so you will have the opportunity to influence how the curriculum develops, work closely with colleagues and employers, and see the impact of your work directly.
What you will do
- Coach and mentor apprentices throughout their programme.
- Deliver vocational and technical learning within your areas of occupational competence.
- Visit apprentices in theatres, venues, studios and live-event workplaces for observations and reviews.
- Deliver online tutorials, seminars and practical learning activity.
- Work with employers to make sure apprentices are gaining the right workplace experience.
- Provide developmental feedback and support apprentices towards successful completion.
- Manage a learner caseload, progress reviews, training plans and apprenticeship records.
- Contribute to curriculum development, technical resources and standardisation.

Flexible working
The role can be largely home-based/remote when you are not delivering training, attending team activity or visiting apprentices. We are open to flexible working arrangements and expect Development Coaches to have a high level of autonomy in managing their diary.
Travel is an important part of the role because apprentices need to be observed in their real working environments. This will include planned visits to theatres, venues, studios and live-event workplaces across England.
Who we are looking for
We are particularly interested in people with substantial practical experience in technical theatre, live events or creative venue production, especially across sound/audio, lighting and stage systems.
You may have one principal specialism, but you should have enough practical understanding across the wider production environment to work credibly with apprentices and employers.
You do not need to have followed a traditional education or training career path. Experience of training, coaching, mentoring or supervising others is valuable, and a teaching or assessor qualification is helpful, but we will consider strong industry applicants who are willing to work towards the appropriate qualification.
What we offer
- £30,000 – £36,000 full-time equivalent, depending on experience.
- Flexible and home-based working.
- A high level of autonomy in managing your diary.
- Employee Assistance Programme providing confidential wellbeing support.
- Regular teaching, learning and assessment development and standardisation.
- Support to develop your teaching, coaching and assessment practice.
- The opportunity to work with some of the UK's leading creative and cultural employers.
- The chance to help shape specialist apprenticeship provision within one of the UK’s leading, independent social enterprises.
Interested?
If you have built your career in technical theatre or live events and like the idea of using that experience to develop other people, we would particularly like to hear from you.
What matters most is credible industry experience, the ability to work well with people and a genuine interest in helping apprentices build successful careers in the creative industries.
Please provide your CV in the application form.
