Course Overview

The Apprenticeship

Topics and Qualifications

Throughout the 21 month qualification there are 14 topics, these will change sequence for every apprentice and their placement. These topics will include:

Introduction to scenic art

An introduction to the training or apprenticeship program.

Introduction to the portfolio

Identifying and applying time management techniques to help structure tasks.

History of Art

The differences in styles and periods in the story of world art.

History of Architecture

Recognise the different styles and periods of notable buildings and interiors.

Health and safety regulations

Safety legislation, regulations, policies and procedures.

Environmental Legislation

The importance of environmental responsibilities within the role.

Colour theory

Identify and fully understand the main categories in colour theory.

Colour Theory Practical

Develop drawings, paintings, colour samples in accordance with a concept.

Design Requirements

Recieve design brief and observe requirements.

CAD Practical

CAD and creative software to develop and create images.

Introduction to EPA

Introduction to End Point Assessment.

Finalising the portfolio and interview techniques

End point Assessment

The End-Point Assessment is done in the final part of the apprenticeship and is how the apprentice is judged of their learning. There are two elements to the End Point Assessment. 

The Scenic Artist End Point Assessment (EPA) involves the following: 

  • Assessment Method One:
    Interview underpinned by a portfolio of evidence 
  • Assessment Method Two:
    Practical assessment with questioning
